Summary About the position: This position NAF position will be assigned to the Wood Shop at the Hobby Complex at Wright-Patterson AFB. Operates and maintains the Wood Working Skills Center for patron use. Uses a wide variety of professional/industrial power tools, hand power tools, manual hand tools. Responsibilities Operates and maintains the Wood Working Skills Center for patron use. Uses a wide variety of professional/industrial power tools, hand power tools, manual hand tools. Designs, creates, produces, and /or modifies computer rotary engraved and computer laser engraved products using wood, plastic or metal. Assists patrons in various self-help woodworking projects requiring a variety of skills. Ensures that patrons use proper tools and follow safety procedures. Checks progress of the patron's projects. Prepares patron check-in forms, calculate fees and charges for services rendered. Provides custom manufacturing of shadow boxes, flag cases, and other organizational and personal wood projects. Ensures quality control. Ensures customer satisfaction is maintained. Ensures proper use of equipment. Maintains equipment in proper working order. Repairs equipment if possible. Instruct patrons in formal and informal sessions on techniques, materials, safety and regulations. Ensures that the housekeeping standards are maintained. Qualifying Experience: Must have experience which demonstrates knowledge of wood crafting methods and techniques to make and repair a variety of wooden items with unique and intricate shapes and designs. Knowledge of the properties and characteristics of a wide variety of woods, gluing, and bonding agents and other woodworking materials. Ability to compute and ensure consistency of dimensions on interlocking parts. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices and procedures. Knowledge of set up, operation and maintenance of precision wood crafting machines and woodworking hand and power tools. Ability to instruct and assist wood patrons. Requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, and arm movements. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 45 pounds. Must have ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Must possess skill in dealing with the public. This is a position of trust. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution. FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
