Knitting Machine Mechanic - Fixer

Summary: Monitor and assist with set up and repairs for a set of machines that automatically produce knitted gloves and other apparel by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Clean, oil and lubricate machines as needed.

  • Validate machine based on setup ticket to produce glove to specification.

  • Check gloves for defects, size gloves and perform maintenance on machines as needed.

  • Confer with co-workers to obtain information about problems or processes.

  • Constantly performs inspection of knitting machines to determine whether repairs or adjustments are needed, will repair if necessary.

  • Notify supervisor or head fixer of mechanical malfunctions, if unable to solve problem.

  • Help catch lights, clip strings and check gloves when caught up.

  • Repair or replace worn or defective needles, sinkers and jacks as needed.

  • Help keep production area clean and organized.

  • Perform duties of knitter as needed and during knitters break times.

    Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 6 months similar industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Mechanical skills required.

  • Skilled in the use of small hand tools and other mechanical equipment.
