YAI Behavior Support Assistant - BHS Home in West Milford - 1463 Macopin Rd, New York

Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Under supervision of the BCBA, assists with development and implementation of individual service plans (ISPs) and Behavior Support Plans (BSP)s and ensures that the people supported and their families are active participants in the development of these plans.

  • Serves as a clinical role model for the direct support staff (DSP-RBTs) and works with the interdisciplinary therapeutic team to teach life skills and handle crisis intervention

  • Provides group/individual counseling

  • Communicates with the person we support, their caregiver and support system regarding the person's habilitative and behavioral needs and significant issues.

  • Conducts interest-driven and socialization groups and provides support on recreational and community outings.

  • Maintains timely and complete documentation, progress notes, and other data, including incident and accident reports,

  • Responds to individual safety needs, including reporting significant changes in behavior and health.

  • Assists the BIS with BSP implementation, data collection and monitoring, fidelity checks, and reporting of participation in and benefit of therapeutic activities.

  • Provides program/floor coverage, including provision of direct care and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) when necessary and/or support to BHS home staff in the absence of the Program or Assistant Supervisor.

  • Performs all other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements including education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essential physical capabilities (e.g. lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc.)

  • Shall be at least 18 years of age.

  • High School Diploma or its educational equivalent; and

  • Two (2) – five (5) years of experience working in an ABA environment or in a similar human services role in any setting demonstrating positive behavioral support and understanding and effectively interpreting behavior as communication, including at least one (1) year of experience working directly with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) or behavioral challenges; or

  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training; however, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience working directly with individuals with I/DD or behavioral challenges.

  • Must obtain Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification within six months of appointment.

  • Criminal Background Check, fingerprinting and additional relevant/required clearances as required by Federal, State and Local government or other agencies including Central Registry of Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI).

  • Tuberculosis mandatory for most positions.

  • Must hold a valid Driver’s license with no more than 5 points.

  • New Jersey State drug test screening is mandatory prior to employment and randomly/for cause, as applicable.

  • Basic computer skills – including email, utilizing Workday and related systems (DA, etc.) to complete essential tasks.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

  • Willingness to take initiative.

  • Highly flexible personality type.

Compensation: $21.00-$25.00/hour

Preferred Qualification Requirements (desired requirements beyond MQRs above)

  • Formal training, including college coursework or degree in psychology, sociology, human behavior, mental health and/or I/DD

  • Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification and/or similar professional credential or license

  • One (1) or more years of experience mentoring, leading and/or supervising staff
