Gersh Autism Registered Behavior Technician in West Hempstead, New York

Do you want to help change lives each day? Gersh Autism is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or Behavioral Specialist Paraprofessional to join our team. This role involves providing direct behavioral support to students, particularly those on the autism spectrum, in alignment with their Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) and Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs). The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and be skilled in crisis intervention within a school-based setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement Behavioral Plans: Follow and execute Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) and recommendations from Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) to support student development.

  • Direct Student Support: Provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students, focusing on those on the autism spectrum.

  • Behavioral Data Collection: Accurately record and report on student behaviors and progress as per ABA guidelines.

  • Intervention Strategies: Utilize ABA techniques to manage and reduce challenging behaviors, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.

  • Collaborate with Team: Work closely with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to ensure cohesive support for students.

  • Crisis Intervention: Apply de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies when necessary.

  • Communication: Maintain clear and consistent communication with parents, teachers, and the ABA team regarding student progress and any concerns.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

  • Alternatively: 3+ years of experience as a Behavioral Specialist.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of ABA principles and techniques.

  • Proficiency in implementing BIPs and conducting behavioral interventions.

  • Ability to handle and de-escalate aggressive behaviors effectively.

  • Excellent observational and data collection skills.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Certifications:

  • Current and active RBT certification.

Working Conditions:

  • Monday – Friday / 8:00am – 4:00pm

  • Occasional before and after schoolwork hours at the discretion of the Administrative staff

  • School / Classroom setting

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to keep students safe from themselves and others and in some cases may need to implement CPI procedure

  • Must be able to remove oneself from potentially harmful situations and in some cases be able to lift a child.

  • Must be 18 years or older.
