Job Description:
A Brief Overview
Responsible for directing, reviewing and overseeing performance of all operations for assigned department(s). Duties will extend to include test method evaluation, selection and implementation, designing and maintaining current policies and procedures, inventory control, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Performs tests and procedures in assigned section, including those which require exercise of independent judgment and responsibility. Independently performs qualitative and quantitative tests, following established guidelines and predetermined criteria. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and/or results and uses knowledge, critical thinking skills, and judgment to troubleshoot and resolve them. Performs competency assessments for moderate and/or high complexity testing, depending upon the department. May also perform testing in other departments as needed.
What you will do
Provide bench coverage as needed.
Review quality control for assigned department(s).
Oversee the proficiency testing program for assigned department(s).
Maintains adequate inventory of all materials and supplies required for assigned department(s) to ensure that patient testing is not interrupted.
Review laboratory test results to check for accuracy.
Writes and reviews Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for assigned department(s).
Coordinates and performs new test method validations.
Oversee the workflow of the department, communicate standards, and ensure that staff are following procedures and quality standards.
Reviews monthly maintenance logs for assigned department(s).
Participate in training and orientation of new staff; provides ongoing education.
Investigate complaints about service and equipment and take corrective action.
Coordinate activities with other departments to ensure that services are provided in an efficient and timely manner.
Participate in department meetings and quality assurance programs.
Recommend changes that could improve service and increase operational efficiency.
Participates in continuing education and attends workshops to increase awareness of best practices for the clinical laboratory.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science Required
Maintains current and active status on all required training and education as outlined by corporate policy Required
1-3 years clinical internship in a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited clinical laboratory science program or approved alternate career path that meets certification eligibility requirements Required
4-6 years minimal clinical laboratory experience Preferred
Must meet the CLIA 42CFR493.1449 requirements for Technical Supervisor, Technical Consultant and/or General Supervisor for assigned department
Maintains current and active status on all required training and education as outlined by corporate policy
Mental Demands: Ability to comprehend and follow instructions, perform assigned tasks, maintain appropriate work pace, perform complex or varied tasks, relate to others, make decisions, direct, control and plan, interact with public or co-workers in written for, communicate orally.
Required Productivity: Maintain productivity by completing all aspects of the job and looking for or asking to assist with other job functions as time allows.
Work Schedule Requirements: Able to work scheduled shift and may be asked to change shifts to meet departmental staffing needs. May be asked to work extended hours.
Medical Laboratory Scientist within 180 Days Required or
Medical Technologist within 180 Days Required
Qualifications:
Certification should be through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
