Purpose Statement:

Developing bilingualstudents' ability to effectivelynavigatecourses of study in the English language by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; providingmethods to support and/or reinforce classroom goals in the home; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; developing lesson plans and instructional techniques; evaluating students level of English fluency and providing feedback to students, parents and administration about student progress, expectations, goals, etc

Requirements:

  • Strong content knowledge
  • Ability to make connections with students through words and actions
  • Ability to set up and support a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment
  • Knowledgeable of the DESE Blueprint for English Learner Success
  • Knowledgeable of the WIDA assessment system
  • Understand the essential components of a district-wide ELL program

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Teach according to curriculum guidelines specified by the school district
  • Maintain ongoing curriculum evaluation and program evaluation development to meet the needs of students
  • Offers direction to instructional aides and classroom teachers in the implementation of evidence-based instructional approaches
  • Implement curriculum and instruction consistent with District's mission statement
  • Serves as a district-wide resource to staff and families regarding English language development and best practices
  • Show empathy for and understanding of students
  • Share ideas and observations with students, parents and colleagues
  • Develop with parents and students a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and objectivity
  • Collaborates with district and building staff to support translation and implementation of resources in home languages
  • Facilitate resolution of problems that might arise with students and parents
  • Formally and informally assess student performance often and objectively
  • Continue intellectual and professional development
  • Instructs bilingual students for success in academics and skills
  • Models properEnglish communication fordeveloping students' ability to communicate effectively in the English language
  • Follow guidance and policies established by the Board of Education

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Missouri Teacher Certification - ELL or ESL Endorsement
