Description
An educational institution in Watertown, MA is hiring a Sr. Accountant to assist on an immediate basis. This position is full time and requires 4 days a week on site, with flexibility on your remote work day.
As a Sr. Accountant, you will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including tax, audit, and compliance tasks, as well as general ledger account reconciliations and external filings.
Responsibilities:
• Implement and maintain accounting controls in line with established policies and procedures
• Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with established accounting policies and procedures and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) when analyzing monthly revenues and expenses
• Assist in the creation of the annual Massachusetts Uniform Financial Report (UFR)
• Help with the preparation of the annual financial statements, including footnotes, and other external audits
• Aid in the development of policies/procedures relative to the administration of general accounting practices
• Support the preparation of the annual Form 990, Form 990T, Form M990T, Form PC, and other tax filings as necessary
• Contribute to the annual 401(a) retirement plan audit and annual returns
• Analyze quarterly balance sheet, revenue and expense fluctuations
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts at the end of each month, quarter, and year
• Assist in other duties as required.
Requirements
Proficiency in Workday Strongly Preferred
• Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Extensive experience in a senior accounting role, preferably within the education sector.
• Proficient understanding of Annual Tax procedures and regulations.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP Accounting principles and practices.
• Experience in conducting and managing audits.
• Exceptional analytical skills with a high degree of precision.
• Ability to work independently, manage large workloads, and keep deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for liaising with various departments.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or similar detail oriented accounting designation is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in creating financial reports and statements.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
