Northrop Grumman Defense Systems Sector has a need for a Hardware Engineering Manager 2 at its campus in Warner Robins, GA. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong engineering and leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance. The candidate will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This candidate will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate. The candidate needs the ability to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching.

This position will lead a functional team of hardware engineers that support a diverse portfolio of programs. Our engineering teams provides world-class engineering solutions to the sustainment and modernization of mission systems for our customers. Our programs include development, sustainment, and IR&D programs for systems that include electronic warfare, radar, and avionics. This position is a dual role encompassing both technical and people leadership.

Position Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Provide technical oversight for engineering activities performed by the team. Candidate will lead a team that implements many technologies and needs diverse engineering experiences.

  • Candidate will be a thought leader of systems thinking and hardware engineering for both their team and the organization.

  • Perform as a senior hardware engineer to support programs and new business efforts. These tasks will include hardware development plans, hardware requirements development, hardware design, and hardware integration and test strategies. Hardware sub-disciplines include circuit card design, firmware (VHDL) design, and mechanical design including the design and integration of these sub-assemblies into systems and subsystems.

  • Responsible for WBS elements assigned to the Hardware Engineering team.

  • Expected to oversee assigned elements using Earned Value Management System (EVMS).

  • Engage and collaborate with program and functional organizations to obtain, understand, and interpret program resource needs to effectively meet program milestones.

  • Manage and maintain the day-to-day interfaces and communications between Program Management (PM), Engineering Functionals, Manufacturing, and Global Supply Chain. Resolve issues spanning across Hardware Engineering functional area.

  • Assess, track, and mitigate cost and schedule risk supported by quantitative and predictive analyses.

  • Facilitate internal meetings to support design, production, and problem resolution.

  • Utilize fundamental engineering principles to facilitate production and design changes within the project team that result in superior products within the program budget.

People Leadership:

  • Lead the Hardware Engineering team that leads and supports an exciting and diverse portfolio of programs

  • Lead the CADD (Computer Aided Design/Drafting) team that supports the Warner Robins campus

  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to staff to ensure engineering projects in your portfolio meet performance objectives

  • Responsible for direct management of staff and providing objected direction to the staff

  • Execute, update, and maintain department procedures

  • Support organizational engineering initiatives

Basic Qualifications:

  • 9+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering only; OR 7 years of relevant experience with a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Experience designing hardware (e.g. CCA) for ruggedized military systems.

  • Experience applying systems thinking and systems engineering best practices to engineering development programs.

  • Proven leadership skills as a people and technical leader, and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment

  • Able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance per business requirements. US Citizenship is a requirement.

  • Must be able to work at location in Warner Robins, GA.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as an engineering manager, hardware engineering lead, and/or chief engineer

  • Firmware Design Experience

  • Design experience for analog, digital and RF domains

  • Active Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $119,300 - $178,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
