Transportation Engineer III: Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Transportation Engineer IV V- in addition to the above:Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or research. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties: Transportation Engineer III:Evaluates and makes recommendations for developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project plans and schedules so that projects may be executed in the most efficient and effective manner possible.Performs advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations, and transportation planning studies.Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.Acts as a consultant to supervisors of special maintenance crews.Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.Reviews, coordinates, monitors, and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts; performs/oversees maintenance specifications writing/review, plans and proposal review, and preparation of estimates for letting.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Eng. IV-in addition to the above:Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals.Formulates, develops and/or monitors budgets and financial information.Transportation Eng. V-in addition to the above:Develops and supports implementation activities for new methods, procedures, and technologies.
