The primary purpose of this position is to provide a Student Trainee, who has been appointed to the Pathways Summer Program, with on-the-job training and guidance. Will perform other related swimming facility duties, to further student technical development. THIS PUBLIC NOTICE COVERS ALL SUMMER HIRE STUDENT TRAINEE, GS-0199-01/02/03/04 POSITIONS FOR ALL TITLES** Responsibilities Monitors activities within assigned swimming facility. Cleans and maintains the swimming facility. Rescues and resuscitates individuals in danger of drowning and renders first aid to injuries. Performs gate control duties. Conducts swimming lessons following prescribed lesson plan. Leads three or more lifeguards in the performance of lifeguard and related swimming facility duties. QUALIFICATIONS: GS-02: Three months of general experience for GS-0199-02 level positions. General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. -OR- Education: High school diploma or equivalent QUALIFICATIONS: GS-03: Six months of general experience for GS-0199-03 level positions. General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. -OR- Education: Successful completion of 1 academic year of post-high school study -OR- COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You must submit a copy of transcripts. QUALIFICATIONS For GS-04: Six months of general experience for GS-0199-04 level positions. General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. -AND- At least Six months of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-03) or equivalent. Specialized experience must have the ability rescue and resuscitate individuals in danger of drowning and renders first aid to injuries; clean and maintain the swimming facility; and provide assistance in planning, monitoring, and/or supervising recreation activities. -OR- EDUCATION: For GS-04: Successful completion of 2 academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree -OR- COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You must submit a copy of transcripts. Note: The high school curriculum must be approved by a State or local governing body. All education beyond high school must be accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are selected for Lead Lifeguard/Lifeguard: Must possess a current and valid nationally recognized (e.g., American Red Cross) Water Safety Instructor certification. (If applicable to the position). May provide advice and guidance, such as orientation, lesson plans etc., to low grade lifeguards. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of lifesaving, first aid, and CPR as would be learned through an approved course leading to certification. Knowledge of a variety of swimming facility rules, work procedures, equipment and materials to perform standing, recurring tasks Ability (demonstrated, current and physical) to swim to and rescue swimmers of all age groups to and including adult and to administer CPR to adults, children and infants. Ability to orient lower graded employees, distribute/balance work assignments, and monitor work accomplishment. Ability to communicate effectively, orally. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education This position has an education requirement. You MUST provide transcripts or Official Letter of Enrollment to support your educational claims. An accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education must accredit education. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
