QUALIFICATIONS :

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities :

  1. Demonstrated application of effective instruction meeting student needs relative to district benchmarks and standards.

  2. Knowledge of “best practice” in teaching.

  3. Knowledge of the developmental characteristics of students at the designated grade level.

  4. Ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders.

  5. Knowledge of the Iowa Teaching Standards.

  6. Knowledge of special education and section 504.

  7. Knowledge of Federal Rights and Privacy Act and other civil rights regulations.

  8. Ability to organize and think clearly while communicating, organizing and evaluating.

  9. Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels.

  10. Strong instrumental skills, including piano accompaniment.

    Education :

  11. Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Board of Educational Examiners approved alternative.

    Certification/Licensure :

  12. Appropriate BOEE licensure.

    Experience :

  13. Successful experience teaching elementary music preferred.

    Equipment :

  14. Office equipment such as computers, two-way radios, multi-line phone system, cell phone, copier, and fax machines.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaches general music to K - 5th grade including, harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble.

  • Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.

  • Provides opportunities for music ensembles including choir & music programs.

  • Plans, rehearses, and directs students in musical programs for school and community.

  • Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.

  • Develops and refines music curriculum based on district standards of creating, performing, and responding.

  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.

  • Evaluates each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.

  • Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students

  • Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.

  • Cooperation with administration and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs.

    SUPERVISION OF OTHERS :

    • None

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

    • Repetitious bending, lifting, and hand movement.

    • Ability to work while standing, moving and/or walking.

    • Drug, tobacco, and alcohol-free while working.

    • Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids.

    • Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    • Majority of work is performed in an office or school setting.

    • Occasional meetings outside the school day.

    • Occasional exposure to body fluids, fumes, noise, and hazardous materials and emergency situations.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT :

    • Per Board Policies and the UEA Master Contract.

    • Performance evaluated per Board Policy and the Professional Growth Assessment Plan.
