JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Water, Health, and Nutrition Lab of Dr. Asher Rosinger, located in the Department of Biobehavioral Health at the Pennsylvania State University (https://hhd.psu.edu/bbh). This full-time, temporary appointment is a one-year position with the expectation of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance for up to 4.5 years.

The Water, Health, and Nutrition Lab (https://hhd.psu.edu/bbh/research/research-labs/water-health-and-nutrition-lab) is initiating a NIEHS-funded, five-year longitudinal study to examine the effects of drinking water salinity and heat stress on hydration, kidney function, and blood pressure in northern Kenya. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will play a critical role in this project, leading data collection during two field seasons per year (spending approximately 4 months in Kenya per year), training field staff, processing and managing data, and contributing to data analysis, manuscript writing, and the dissemination of results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and assist with field data collection in Kenya (4 months per year).

  • Process, manage, and analyze data using Stata, R, or Python.

  • Prepare manuscripts for publication and assist in dissemination activities.

  • Contribute to the integration of environmental and health data in interdisciplinary research.

  • Collaborate on the development of future interdisciplinary research projects.

  • Engage in mentoring and teaching opportunities in the field, with approval from the supervising faculty, to enhance career readiness.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant field, such as human biology, global public health, epidemiology, nutrition, or other closely aligned fields awarded within the last five years.

  • Experience in human subjects health research, fieldwork, biomarkers, survey methods, and interdisciplinary data integration.

  • Proficiency in statistical software (Stata, R, Python) for data analysis and management.

  • Experience with water quality analysis is a plus.
