JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Biobehavioral Health (https://hhd.psu.edu/bbh) (BBH) in the College of Health and Human Development (https://hhd.psu.edu/) (HHD) invites applications for a full-time (48-week), non-tenure track Assistant or Associate Teaching Professor (rank determined based on prior experience) for its online undergraduate degree program offered through Penn State’s World Campus (https://www.worldcampus.psu.edu/) . The Department of BBH is a large, vibrant, and uniquely multifaceted program that examines the space where biological, psychological, environmental, cultural, and global factors converge to affect health and wellness across the entire human lifespan. Penn State has a formal process for career development and promotion for non-tenure faculty, and an instructor in this position would be eligible to participate in that process. We are particularly interested in individuals whose pedagogy fits within the department’s interdisciplinary focus on integrating biological, environmental, psychosocial, and contextual processes as related to health.

This is a term position with the possibility of renewal.

The individual who fills this role will instruct up to nine sections of online BBH course offerings per year (up to three courses per semester in fall, spring, and summer). Instruction will primarily be online; however, some in-resident instruction may be required based on departmental needs. Therefore, it is expected that the individual hired for this position will be able to work from the University Park campus. Additionally, the person hired for this position will engage in program development and service, including (but not limited to): the development of courses, online course maintenance and revision, participating in and/or leading initiatives to build community and engagement among students, and collaborating with a broad range of BBH faculty and staff on departmental service tasks.

The desired candidate will hold a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Biobehavioral Health or a related field including (but not limited to) psychology, other biological sciences, public health, or neuroscience. Instructional experience in areas related to BBH and online teaching experience are strongly preferred. The individual must be able to work effectively with diverse populations and audiences as evidenced by previous work and life experiences. Penn State offers a resource-rich and inspiring higher learning environment with significant opportunities to collaborate with experts in pedagogy, such as the Schreyer’s Institute for Teaching Excellence (https://www.schreyerinstitute.psu.edu) and Penn State World Campus Faculty Development (https://wcfd.psu.edu/) .

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and includes an attractive benefits package. To be considered for this position, applications must be submitted electronically and should include: 1) a cover letter describing interests, qualifications, teaching philosophy, and commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion, 2) curriculum vitae, and 3) the names and contact information of three professional references. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until all positions are filled. Questions concerning this opportunity may be sent to Beth Edwards at baq102@psu.edu.
