Position Title
Assistant/Associate/Full Professor-Lab Animal Medicine
Job Summary
This position is responsible for maintaining compliance with federal regulations on laboratory animal welfare, as well as for supporting the educational mission of the institution.
Essential Job Duties
- Commitment to the Universitys tri-partite mission of teaching, research, and service.
- Develop the Animal Welfare Assurance document of Public Health Service ( PHS) policy for Humane and Use of Laboratory Animals every four or five years.
- Maintain the Animal Welfare Assurance Number with the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare ( OLAW).
- Prepare and submit the Annual Report to the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare ( OLAW) each year.
- Assist the Laboratory Animal Program at Tuskegee by participating in the 12 IACUCmeetings.
- Participation on College and University committees.
- Coordinate, develop a syllabus, and teach the core course on Avian, Exotics, and Laboratory Animal Diseases to DVMstudents.
- Participate in classroom, clinical and laboratory instruction for veterinary students, graduate students, and interns.
- Participate in classroom instruction with a focus on Laboratory Animal Medicine.
- Conduct research independently or collaboratively, apply for external grant funding, and guide graduate and/or professional student research.
- Demonstrate creative scholarship and collaborative activities.
- All other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, Laboratory Animal Medicine Residency certificate, and American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) board eligibility is required.
- Preference will be given to those candidates possessing the PhD in a related discipline and Diplomate status.
- At least two years of federal regulatory experience in a School or College of Veterinary Medicine or pertinent agency.
