Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Director, Solutions Engineering to lead and grow our pre-sales operations in Japan . This critical role involves managing a high-performing team of Solution Engineers, driving strategic initiatives, and aligning regional efforts with global priorities. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Open Source technologies, relational database systems (e.g., MySQL), and pre-sales leadership.

This position reports directly to a Vice President based in New York and will require frequent collaboration across time zones. As the senior pre-sales leader in Japan, you will play a key role in customer success, team development, and innovation, both regionally and globally.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership :

• Manage and lead a growing team of Solution Engineers across Japan, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.

• Develop and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all team members to ensure excellence throughout the fiscal year.

• Provide ongoing mentorship and guidance to support the team’s professional growth and technical expertise.

Sales and Pre-Sales Enablement :

• Direct and manage pre-sales resources throughout the sales cycle, collaborating with the Oracle sales team to address customer needs and achieve business objectives.

• Participate in account planning and strategy development , offering critical technical insights to shape successful sales strategies.

Technical Leadership :

• Provide technical and functional leadership to the sales team in the development and implementation of customer applications and products, both within Japan and globally.

• Serve as the company liaison on specific technical projects, presentations, and customer engagements.

• Work with global and regional management teams to define new products and features, ensuring alignment with market demands and customer expectations.

Customer Engagement :

• Travel extensively within Japan to engage with customers, build lasting relationships, and deliver tailored solutions to address complex business challenges.

• Act as a trusted advisor to customers, showcasing the value of our solutions through impactful presentations, demonstrations, and benchmarks.

Thought Leadership and Innovation :

• Publish technical information, such as application-specific insights or technical articles, to establish the team as a thought leader in the industry.

• Stay ahead of emerging trends and technologies, positioning the team as a key player in the global marketplace.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in managing and developing pre-sales or technical teams, with a focus on measurable performance outcomes.

• Strong expertise in Open Source technologies, relational database systems (e.g., MySQL), and enterprise applications.

• Exceptional communication skills in English and Japanese , with the ability to collaborate effectively across global and regional teams.

• Flexibility to participate in meetings during U.S. business hours and travel extensively within Japan.

• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives, develop strategic account plans, and influence technical decision-making.
