Summary

Executes policy development and advocacy with local counties and municipalities. Plans and implements complex public affairs and community initiatives to enact critical public policies that support corporate goals & objectives for the benefit SRP customers, employees, and shareholders. Provides high-profile representation of SRP as a liaison to strategic communities and organizations. Additionally, serves as an advisor to, and regularly communicates with, business units.

What You'll Do

• Under the supervision of the Director of Local Government Relations, represents SRP within strategic community organizations, as well as in City Halls, and with high level officials and community leaders in order to develop and implement strategies that benefit SRP customers, employees and shareholders.

• Supports the Director of Local Government Relations and Associate General Manager & Chief Public Affairs Executive to lead and prioritize competing policy initiatives, integrate with corporate objectives, and identify and address industry trends.

• Serves as a public face of SRP and testifies in city council hearings and other governmental venues, and at community events. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with elected officials and staffs and with community and business leaders.

• Makes recommendations for strategic allocation of SRP Public Affairs resources in support of strategic community engagement, in collaboration with Chamber Relations and Community Outreach. Collaborates with Community Outreach in supporting leadership groups and conducts briefings and tours with community leadership classes.

• Provides key input into communication to ensure consistent and coordinated messaging in the public domain with a particular emphasis on long term corporate public affairs strategy.

• Researches, engages, and communicates with internal and external stakeholders including officials on policy and regulatory issues affecting SRP and electric utility industry.

• Contributes subject matter expertise on issues affecting Local Government Relations and SRP business units and applies knowledge of developing trends within government, industry and strategic communities. Produces written analysis of tactical and strategic options for engagement in the context of emerging public policy issues and their implications on SRP operations and corporate goals.

• Provides public policy leadership in community organizations such as chambers of commerce, trade associations, and business alliances. Serves on key government, community and trade group boards and commissions.

Experience

Lead and manage a team of local government relations employees. Ensuring high caliber performance, consistency, and engagement with locally elected and appointed officials. Manage the corporate message through collaboration with business units to address municipal policies that affect the company.

  • For a Level 3 (Senior), a minimum of 10 years of related experience plus a bachelor's degree is required. (If no degree, 14 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling 14 years without a degree).

Education

A bachelor’s degree related to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
