About being our Civil Construction Observer

Psomas is seeking a skilled Civil Construction Observer to join our Construction Services team for the upcoming construction season. In this role, you will conduct daily site observations, document project progress, and verify compliance with plans and specifications. Our construction services team supports a diverse portfolio of municipal projects, ranging from small utility and sidewalk improvements to large, multi-year utility and transportation projects. Assignments and responsibilities will be tailored to your skill set and experience, allowing for meaningful contributions to both current and upcoming projects.

This position primarily supports South-End projects (mainly south of Renton through greater Olympia) and may require variable working hours depending on project needs.

Responsibility Highlights for our Civil Construction Observer

  • Perform daily site observations and documentation for civil infrastructure projects, including roadways, water mains, stormwater systems, and sewer improvements
  • Verify contractor compliance with contract documents, including project plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and quality assurance requirements
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, measurements, calculations, and quantity computations, and assist in preparing Field Note Records for progress payment processing
  • Coordinate and monitor field material sampling and testing to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Identify and document potential changed conditions, notify the project team promptly, and oversee force account work as necessary
  • Support the enforcement of safety standards and project-specific safety plans at construction sites
  • Collaborate with the project team, contractors, and stakeholders to address technical issues, resolve field conflicts, and ensure timely project progress

Minimum Qualifications to be our Civil Construction Observer

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ year of construction observation experience or relevant construction experience
  • Responsible driving record with no major or repeated violations (daily inspection includes travel to various job sites)
  • Willingness/ability to occasionally work weekends, night work, and/or long hours in adverse weather conditions as project dictates
  • Able to calculate areas, volumes, and other basic field measurement quantities
  • Basic proficiency with software such as Excel, Word, Outlook, and more

Preferred Qualifications for our Civil Construction Observer

  • 5+ years of construction observation experience or relevant construction experience
  • 10+ years to be hired as a Senior Construction Observer
  • APWA Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII)
  • Familiarity with WSDOT Standard Specifications and WSDOT Standard Plans
  • Dependable and detail oriented; able to handle & prioritize multiple project functions
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with clients, contractors, and residents
