Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

This job is responsible for providing direct spiritual care service to patients, families and staff under the general supervision of their assigned CPE Supervisor. An incumbent participates fully in the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) residency program and the CHI Franciscan Health (CHI-FH) Spiritual Care Team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides individual and group spiritual care to patients, families and CHI Franciscan Health (CHI-FH) Staff under the general supervision of their assigned CPE Supervisor. Residents are assigned to specific units and focus their efforts in this area.

  • Actively involves him/herself in self-care and all aspects of the clinical training program. Participates in all CPE functions.

  • Collaborates with physicians, social workers, nursing staff and other spiritual care team members regarding holistic wellness perspectives, working to heighten awareness of the importance of spiritual beliefs and practices as well as diverse religious and cultural values in treatment and assisting others in facing the limitations of life and healthcare systems.

  • Collaborates with local clergy and other spiritual leaders in augmenting patients’ faith group support.

  • Participates in Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings to exchange information and collaborate with other caregivers. Provides input on the spiritual aspects of care and grief processes.

  • In conjunction with the medical ethics committee, attends to ethical considerations in patient care.

  • Collaborates with the IDT on clinical outcome efforts to integrate spiritual perspectives into clinical effectiveness and performance improvement projects.

  • Documents assessments and interventions into the patient’s medical record and any other necessary records.

  • Cultural Sensitivity and Competence: Demonstrates proper use of communication tools/materials for effective communication and understands how the culture(s) of patient populations can affect communication, collaboration and the provision of care, treatment and services. Patient Population Served: Demonstrates knowledge and proper skills associated with the department’s defined specific populations served.

  • Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience Requirements

Completion of graduate level education in Theology or Spirituality or its’ equivalent; completion of a Bachelor’s degree, completion of a minimum of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education and one year of successful ministry experience.

Licensure/Certification

At least one successfully completed unit of Accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE)

Pay Range

$16.30 - $22.42 /hour
