SUNY Upstate Medical University Clinical Dietitian Specialist in Syracuse, New York
Job Summary:
The Clinical Dietitian Specialist is responsible for providing clinical nutrition services, including nutrition assessment, modified diet formulation, self-management training and nutrition intervention to patients/residents. Ensures patient satisfaction, quality care, regulatory agency compliance, and good public relations are achieved through the safe and efficient use of resources. Position must provide nutrition services in identified specialty area for a minimum of 70% of workload/responsibilities. Specialty areas include NICU, bariatric, renal, cardiac, diabetes, nutrition support, transplant, oncology, pediatrics and out-patient services. Utilizes physician/referring practitioner-driven protocols or other facility-specific processes to implement, initiate or modify order for diet or nutrition-related actions (e.g. nutrition supplements, dietary supplements, diet modifications, diet texture modifications for dentition or individual preferences, nutrition-related laboratory tests and medications, and nutrition education and counseling). Utilizes physician/referring practitioner-driven protocols or other facility-specific processes to manage nutrition support therapies (e.g., enteral, and parenteral formula selection and rate adjustments based on energy needs or laboratory results, addition of designated medications and vitamin/mineral supplements to parenteral nutrition solutions or supplemental water for enteral nutrition).
Participates in facility-wide and department Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program and on QAPI teams to improve processes and patient care. Participates in and attends departmental meetings, staff development, patient care rounds and professional programs. Provides outpatient nutritional counseling to patients, focusing on specific disease/disorders where nutrition counseling can impact the patient's medical status, meeting documentation and billing regulatory standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors or Masters degree required. Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration required. NYS Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist license (or eligible) required. Three or more years of post RD certification experience in clinical dietetics. Specialty certification or advanced specialized membership required within 1 year of hire.
*Candidates with Bachelors or Masters degree, Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration upon hire or within six (6) months of hire, NYS Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist license upon on hire or within one (1) year of hire, and less than 3 years of post RD certification experience will be considered for appointment to an entry-level (SL1) position at commensurate title and salary.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree with preferred area of Nutrition or related field. Two (2) years or more of experience with Outpatient Counseling with experience in billing. Board certification as a Nutrition Support Clinician or other certifications in Pediatrics or Adult Nutrition: Board Certification as a Specialty in Pediatric Nutrition, Weight Management and Obesity, Oncology Nutrition, Renal Nutrition or board certification in Advanced Diabetes Management.
Work Days:
Monday-Friday, days with weekends and holidays
