Job Title: Hardware Engineer
Job Description
As the design authority for all Mission System products, including CMA-5000, VPU-3000, PU-3000, and CMA-2041 (MFD), you will be responsible for all hardware estimates coming from the Core Hardware group for new programs. You will work closely with product architects and business development managers to understand customer Requests For Proposal and assign requirements to functional groups. Additionally, you will ensure HW Architecture aligns with the Platform Architect to minimize cost and schedule, and provide technical guidance as Design Authority to designers working on Mission System products.
Responsibilities
Design authority for all Mission System products.
Responsible for all hardware estimates from the Core Hardware group for new programs.
Collaborate with product architects and business development managers to understand customer requirements.
Ensure HW Architecture aligns with Platform Architect to minimize cost and schedule.
Develop HW OEDP describing the technical solution.
Work with AEH, Mechanical, ECAD, Electrical, HQE, test Engineering, and Airworthiness teams to define solutions and formalize estimates.
Capture estimates using proven templates for LRU development.
Provide technical guidance to designers on Mission System products.
Define product roadmaps and support next-generation product development.
Technically support customer pursuits, including creating technical proposals.
Review customer statements of work to ensure proposed solutions meet requirements.
Conduct trade-off studies on advanced avionics system architectures.
Stay updated with state-of-the-art avionics systems.
Essential Skills
Hardware design
Electrical engineering
Bachelor’s degree in computer or electrical engineering, or related technical field
A minimum of 7 years of relevant technical experience in the aerospace industry
Extensive knowledge of Mission Computers and civil and military markets
Experience in product ownership throughout its lifecycle
Managing an engineering team of at least 10 people
Customer-facing experience in the aviation industry for both civil and military sectors
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes according to aviation standards
Ability to forecast market and technology trends
Exposure to various engineering disciplines
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Familiarity with ISO/IEC/IEEE- System Engineering process
Understanding of Airworthiness standards such as DO-178, DO-254, DO-160, MIL-STD
Eligibility for Canadian Controlled Goods Program and NATO Secret security clearance
Experience in requirements capture and management using DOORS (or equivalent)
Knowledge of civil and/or military specification standards and practices: ARP4754, ARP4761, DO-178, DO-254, DO-297
Prior experience with avionics systems: Display Systems, FMS, GPS, TAWS, WXR, SVS, Audio Systems, Moving map
Working knowledge of FAA TSO, FARs, and STC regulations and procedures
Certification FAR PART 23/25 related experience
Work Environment
The position offers a hybrid work environment with 2 days remote (currently Tuesdays and Fridays), though this may change as necessary. The office is located in Sugar Grove, IL, providing a clean and functional workspace with an on-site flight simulator.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $76.00/hr.
