Compensation Overview
The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

$129,200.00 - $213,200.00

What Is the Opportunity?
The Benefits organization at Travelers oversees all company-wide employee benefit programs, including health and wellness, savings, retirement, and work-life. As a Director of Health and Welfare Programs, you will be responsible for the management, development and oversight of healthcare, disability and life insurance plans, programs, and initiatives. You will conduct vendor assessments and implement plan design and/or vendor changes. You will manage services provided by benefit plan vendors and internal HR team members. You may manage others.
What Will You Do?
Lead plan delivery and administration within assigned programs by working with external vendors and internal partners, including communications and vendor contracting.
Serve as a liaison for external vendors; responsible for relationship management of vendors within assigned program.
Conduct data research and analysis to provide clear actionable recommendations towards day to day operations and assigned programs. For example, underwriting analysis and rate setting for self-insured and fully insured benefits.
Keep up to date on healthcare, disability and life insurance benefit program advances, technology, changes, and laws and regulations.
Responsible for overseeing assigned benefit programs including operations, administration, SLA’s. For example, completing financial reconciliations of benefit program claims, administrative fees, and vendor billing, as well as supporting internal and external audit requirements (SOC 1 and Trust audits).
Establish quality standards, performance guarantees, and financial competitiveness relative to the programs, and support recommended actions for modifications and new program introductions.
Ensure benefits programs deliver a great employee experience through training, communications, and education.
Interact with all HR Partners to resolve issues, including HRBPs, ESU, Legal, and Employee Relations.
Collaborate with benefit team members to resolve cross functional issues.
Lead complex and enterprise wide benefit projects including engaging external vendors, internal stakeholders, and corporate communications. Define requirements, activities and timelines including leading the project team.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
Bachelor’s and/or associate degree or equivalent.
7+ years’ experience in retirement, wellness, healthcare plans or related benefits field, underwriting experience a plus.
Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Experience using HR Technology platforms and/or Healthcare data warehouse.
Experience leading and managing complex projects.
Analytical skills necessary to evaluate and understand data, find deficiencies/opportunities, and recommend changes.
Ability to set priorities and ensure high standards.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Deep understanding of management principles, budget and cost controls.
Must be a creative and critical thinker.
Must be able to work effectively with internal and external teams.
Highly ethical and able to maintain confidentiality.
CEBS exams and designations.
What is a Must Have?
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in retirement, wellness, healthcare plans or related benefits field.
