BayCare Health System Speech Therapist - NICU in St Josephs, United States

BayCare Health System is in search of our newest Full-Time NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) Speech Therapist to join our Developmental Team (PT, OT, and ST) in our Level IV, 76 bed NICU. This experienced therapist should be passionate about providing outstanding customer service to our community in Tampa. St. Joseph's Children's Hospital treats more children than any other hospital in Tampa Bay so parents can rest assured their child will receive the best expert care close to home. With 80 pediatric physician specialists representing 25 medical and surgical disciplines, the team ensures the highest quality of care for infants and children, even those with the most complex or chronic conditions.

The St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital NICU Therapy Team practices under an integrated model of preventative, family-centered neonatal care, providing both direct and indirect therapy services.

Daily responsibilities of this Speech Therapist may include:

· Conducting assessments to evaluate the pre-feeding and feeding skills of NICU infants who have been impacted by prematurity and/or other medical issues that place them at high-risk for poor neurodevelopmental outcomes.

· Developing individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, medical history, current developmental/medical status and endurance/tolerance. Modifying treatment plans as needed based on changes in medical status, developmental progression, and other factors specific to infant’s neonatal course.

· Providing ongoing assessments and therapeutic interventions to contribute to infant’s success with feeding and to promote best developmental outcomes.

· Working closely with Neonatologists, NICU nurses, Occupational and Physical Therapists, and other healthcare professionals to address the unique needs of NICU patients by collaborating on treatment plans, needs of the family, and discharge recommendations. This includes participation in daily NICU rounds, discharge rounds, complex care rounds, and family care conferences.

· Educating and training caregivers on strategies to support their infant’s feeding skills, early cognitive-communicative skills and developmental progression, both in the NICU and after discharge.

· Maintaining accurate and detailed documentation of assessments, treatment sessions and communicative exchanges, in accordance with regulatory standards.

· Contributing to the growth and ongoing quality improvement of our NICU therapy program by conducting research, providing staff education, collaborating with other BayCare NICU therapists, and spearheading initiatives.

Required Certifications and Licensures:

  • CCC-SLP (Speech Language Pathology)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

  • Speech Therapy License Education:

  • Required Master's Speech Therapy Experience:

  • Preferred 3-5 years pediatric/NICU inpatient/acute care

  • Preferred: MBS experience Specific Skills:

  • Communication skills including strong customer service and written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision

  • Collaborate and work with a team

  • Organizational skills
