Research Support Specialist
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by attached resume):
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience, including graduate studies, in Biology, Marine Biology, or related fields. Related research experience. Experience operating a small boat. Ability to work for extended periods of time in all manner of outdoor field conditions. Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Marine Biology or related field. Experience working with clams and oysters. Experience synthesizing large data sets into figures and reports. Working knowledge of statistical analyses. Experience with field survey techniques.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Research Support Specialist will work under the direction of Principal Investigator, Dr. Christopher Gobler. The position will include extensive field work, including benthic surveys, collection of seaweed and shellfish samples from boats and collection of water samples. The successful incumbent will have excellent interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time management skills with an exceptional attention to detail. Essential for this role is the adeptness to work as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Conducting benthic field surveys to obtain samples of water, shellfish, and seaweed.
Processing field samples including counting and measuring shellfish and seaweed samples, measuring bivalve condition index, filtering water samples for nutrient and chlorophyll.
Assist in the preparation of scientific reports.
Assist with maintaining bivalve and seaweed cultures, nursery tanks, and lab equipment.
Assist with maintaining compliance with environmental health and safety procedures.
Participate in weekly laboratory meetings.
Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
