The Opportunity:

LinkedIn is seeking a passionate, authentic, and dynamic leader to serve as the Director of Legal & Public Policy for Asia. In this role, you will oversee a wide range of legal and public policy matters across the north, east, and southeast Asian markets. Your responsibilities will include managing LinkedIn’s legal risks in areas such as regulatory compliance, commercial transactions, litigation, product development, and corporate law. Additionally, you’ll represent LinkedIn externally, engaging with government officials, regulators, and policy influencers.

We’re looking for someone who can think strategically while also paying attention to detail. You should excel at identifying critical issues, analyzing risks, and providing clear, actionable guidance. Collaboration is key—you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams of LinkedIn employees in the APAC region and collaborate with leaders across the company to advance policy positions that benefit our members and help accomplish our mission and vision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical daily legal advice on a full range of commercial, regulatory, litigation, product, and corporate law related issues across multiple jurisdictions in north, east, and southeast Asia.

  • Lead government affairs and public policy efforts across north and east Asian jurisdictions with an emphasis on China, South Korea, and Japan.

  • Serve as a member of LinkedIn China’s leadership team to advise business leaders on a range of legal and public policy matters related to LinkedIn’s operations in China and Hong Kong.

  • Provide commercial legal advice in relation to SaaS and online advertising related transactions.

  • Advise in relation to proposed tech regulatory legislation as well as regulatory compliance obligations in jurisdictions across north, east, and southeast Asia.

  • Oversee the work of external counsel on a range of legal matters and requests for discrete advice and project work as needed.

  • Provide training to relevant stakeholders in relation to various legal issues and assist in building processes and guidebooks/toolkits to allow for scaling.

  • Manage a small team of legal professionals based in China, and potentially in the future, Japan.

  • Manage multiple relationships with internal stakeholders in north, east, and southeast Asia, including with country managers, regional APAC business leaders, and other cross-functional regional leaders.

Basic Qualifications

  • A recognised professional qualification from an accredited legal body.

  • 10+ years’ combined experience as a lawyer in a law firm and in-house environment.

  • 5+ years’ experience leading a team and managing legal and/or government affairs professionals.

  • Written and spoken Mandarin and English language skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Qualified to practice in China and at least one U.S. state.

  • Solid understanding of commercial law in other jurisdictions outside of country(ies) of qualification.

  • Experience managing / providing advice in relation to multi-jurisdictional projects.

  • Experience partnering with and managing external counsel effectively.

  • Passion for people management through inspiration, compassion, and managerial excellence.   

  • Demonstrated experience influencing cross-functional stakeholders effectively within a matrixed global organization.

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex problems in a manner that is easily understandable to all stakeholders.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple contemporaneous matters effectively.

  • In-depth experience managing legal and public policy risks for organizations in the technology sector.

  • A track record of embracing change, demonstrating a growth mindset though continuous professional development of self and others.
