About IPSD

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar’s company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.

Job Summary:

As a Production Manager, Large Lots/Small Lots, you will be responsible for managing a logistics team, oversite of variable labor logistics workforce and overall performance of designed value steam. You will be response for meeting Caterpillar’s goals for People, Quality, Velocity, and Cost that supports a 24/7 operation while leading with Caterpillar’s Values in Action. The Production Manager also has primary responsibility for the performance of their team, for direct production and support function’s performance.

What You Will Do:

  • Monitor and improve safety on the shop floor; eliminate any unsafe operations and ensure a safe and clean product environment

  • Determine that team members are provided with the proper tools, equipment, and Standard Work to meet schedules and production requirements. Work with Small Business Team (SBT) to review metrics, prioritize improvement plans and lead process improvement initiatives to closure

  • Daily process improvement dialogue with management to designate workload, priorities and sequence for work assigned

  • Determines overtime need, determines priorities when resources are insufficient

  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency. Works to improve processes, timeliness and reduce costs by eliminating non-value-added activities

  • Ensures the quality of product produced and conforms to Caterpillars Quality Policy while maintaining cost

  • Ensure necessary parts and materials are picked and delivered in a timely and efficient manner to Point of Use (POU) or Customer

  • Implement various corporate initiatives such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, CQMS (Caterpillar Quality Management System)/ISO certification, etc

  • Responsible for meeting completion dates on improvement activities and ensuring consistent application of organizational needs

  • Adheres to established standards, policies and practices relating to safety, environmental, ergonomics, quality, cost reduction, affirmative action, etc. in performing assigned duties

  • Responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time

  • Lead team while aligning to Caterpillar’s Values In Action

What skills you will have:

  • Manufacturing Safety: Knowledge of manufacturing safety; ability to identify work-related hazards and perform necessary activities to meet regulatory requirements for the safety and protection of workers, environment, and site

  • Analytical Thinking : Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems

  • Planning and Organizing: Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way

What will put you ahead:

  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience in warehouse, logistics, supply chain, or manufacturing environment

  • Bachelor’s degree, in lieu of a degree, 5 years of experience in a warehouse, logistics, supply chain, or manufacturing environment are required

  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills are required to develop cooperative work relationships with other inside and outside the department

Travel:

  • Less than 10%

Additional Information:

  • Relocation assistance is NOT available for this position

  • This position is in Seguin, TX

  • This is a 1st shift position, may need to work outside the regularly scheduled hours due to increased needs of business. Must be willing to work outside of normal work hours including overtime and weekends
