Amazon Technical Program Manager, Kindle Reader Experience in Seattle, Washington

The Kindle Sync Team is looking for a passionate, results-oriented Technical Program Manager who will be responsible for delivering engaging and innovative reading experiences for Kindle customers. In this role, you will be responsible for conceiving, prioritizing, and executing development projects driven by your obsession to provide the best experiences for Kindle readers worldwide. As a key leader for Kindle Content Engineering, you will work directly with multiple teams across development, program/product management, and the broader Amazon tech community to build and launch these software solutions and drive associated programs.

This role requires hands-on project management skills, deep technical expertise, and excellent leadership skills. You will be responsible for collecting business and system requirements from internal and external customers, writing specifications, driving project schedules from design to release, and managing the production launch. You will also be responsible for setting project management standards and expectations, and delivering large, cross-functional projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Strategic Visioning: You will be collaborating with business stakeholders and technology leadership to define strategic roadmaps and gather comprehensive requirements, thinking big and driving innovation.

  2. Cross-Functional Leadership: You will lead cross-functional development teams from ideation to successful rollout, ensuring seamless execution and delivery of results.

  3. Effective Communication: Building trust and maintaining transparency is a must for this role. You will do this by providing regular updates to senior management on project status, risks, and change control processes.

  4. Data-Driven Decision Making: You will define and own all metrics related to initiative goals, leveraging data-driven insights to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.

  5. Resourcefulness and Creativity: To be successful in this role, you will need to approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset, turning obstacles into opportunities through resourcefulness and creative thinking.

A day in the life

Our team owns the following Kindle CXs.

  • The foundational tech stack for syncing and storing structured annotations (i.e. text sticky notes, highlights, bookmarks).

  • Sync CX features such as MRPR (most recent page read CX) and FPR (furthest page read).

  • The core sync architecture driving our vision to be a federated, scalable, “plug and play” sync service for any Kindle and Books feature requiring sync.

  • Notetaking Sync: The effective back-end for handwritten notetaking (via Kindle Scribe), this team supports handwritten note sync and storage, data integrity, privacy/security for notetaking, and architectural improvements.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of technical product or program management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of software development experience

  • 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience

  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience

  • Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules

  • Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
