We have an outstanding opportunity for a Maintenance Mechanic 2 (NE S WFSE Trades)– HVAC. POSITION PURPOSE

Perform skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction of buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment; particularly in all aspects of HVAC. Positions allocated to this class inspect, repair, install, and maintain physical facilities requiring skilled mechanical and trades work. This class requires a working knowledge of several related skill fields such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and machinist work.

This particular position requires knowledge pertaining to selection, installation and maintenance of air handlers, zone fan terminal units, refrigeration units, rooftop package units, hydronic systems (cold and hot), valves, electric actuators, gas fired boilers, thermostats, air balancing, duct installation and fabrication, distributed digital controls, and all aspects of HVAC.

This position is designated as one that performs an essential service. This means that the position’s incumbent must continue to report to work in the event that the University suspends operations because of severe weather, natural disaster, or other emergency conditions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment such as electrical drive motors and air-conditioning equipment; change oil, grease, change or clean filters, drive belts, sheaves, shafts, and bearings to ensure proper operation.

  • Perform general maintenance, operation, troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical and structural systems of buildings.

  • Repair windows, doors, screens, floors, floor coverings, walls and painted surfaces.

  • Operate hand and power tools in a skilled manner; fabricate material and equipment in workshops.

  • Remodel and construct facilities mechanical equipment and systems in accordance with project requirements; Repair or alter building structures from plans, sketches, instructions or blueprint specifications.

  • Operate power equipment such grinders, punch press, welders, saws, jointers, lathes, sanders, planers, boring and mortising machines; clean, sharpen, maintain and repair such equipment.

  • Drive service truck as required; load and unload materials and supplies.

  • May fire boilers on a relief basis.

  • May assist, coordinate and/or work with helpers and other trades as required.

  • May perform work in other trades; Perform related duties as required. CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Continuously promote a safe work environment. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a journey worker, OR full-journey status in a union; OR four years' applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated successful ability in taking direction, working well with others and as member of a team

  • Demonstrated excellent effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • HVAC Technician certification

  • Knowledge and practical experience with WISHA (Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) regulations

  • Demonstrated proficiency with standard productivity software including Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent products CONDITITONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Work may require access to confined spaces and heights using approved safety precautions

  • Ability to safely work in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, ice, wind, etc.)

  • Ability to lift and move heavy material may be required.

  • Must be able to be fitted for and wear a respirator on the job.

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required
