From aerospace to retail to health care, Brazilian companies are navigating a rocky economy, new competition, security issues and a tricky relationship with Brasilia. Bloomberg is looking for a reporter to cover how business works in Brazil, including scoops on deals, strategies, hidings and firings.

The ideal reporter will have a talent for building sources, the agility to report across several different industries, and the ambition to deliver smart, memorable enterprise that captures the complexity and excitement of the Brazilian business world. We want to secure interviews and roundtables with key decision makers and find ways to set the agenda on a crowded and competitive beat.

The job involves building sources among companies' executives, investors and other stakeholders to deliver scoops and spot trends before competitors get to them. We value reporters who know how to use press conferences, earnings and other events to make connections that help us break news. We would lean on your storytelling skill and ability to mine financial statements to find compelling narratives and smart insights that we can connect with macroeconomics and politics. You should also enjoy collaborating with colleagues and be able to network across our large, global newsroom.

We'll trust you to:

  • Break news on the biggest companies in Brazil.

  • Be a self-starter, develop new ones to generate intelligent, high-impact, market-moving scoops.

  • Talk about your stories on Bloomberg TV, Bloomberg Radio, social video, newsletters and podcasts.

  • Analyze documents and industry data.

  • Cover the beat with speed and accuracy.

  • Write insightful, thought-provoking features that add value.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across our more than 120 bureaus globally.

You'll need to have:

  • A minimum of five years in business journalism, with a proven track record for breaking news on beat coverage.

  • Experience with real-time news.

  • Ability to write quickly and clearly in English under deadline pressure.

  • Comfort with appearing on camera and recording audio.

  • Ability to generate exclusive, breaking news as well as informative feature stories.

  • Fluency in Portuguese.
