Oriental Bank Associate, Delinquency Management (Charge-Off Collections) in San Juan, Puerto Rico

The Associate, Customer Intelligence & Operations (Charge-Off Collections) is responsible for the administration and collection of an assigned portfolio of charged off consumer loans, to assure and maximize recovery of these loans through different collection strategies, as per established goals and bank’s guidelines. Position works hybrid, and is based in Bayamón, PR.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze customer relationships with the Bank to establish the most effective recovery strategy.

  • Investigate debtor’s deposit accounts with the bank to evaluate a possible set off

  • Manage and document in the Akcelerant system the collection efforts made to the charged off accounts assigned for collections.

  • Receive calls from internal and external customers.

  • Investigate and analyze: SKIP cases, credit reports of debtors (when required) & debtor’s real estate properties through the CRIM web site for accounts with balances greater than $10,000. Refer to legal those loans that investigations resulted positive.

  • Send collection letters to non-contact debtors and to those in noncompliance with the payment plan.

  • Negotiate, prepare and formalize payment plan agreement. Negotiations may occur by phone or directly with debtors that visit the offices.

  • Request credit files from the branch, or from OnBase or VCImaging for the purpose of investigation or to refer for legal action.

  • Processing payments through the Paynet or other bank system.

  • Prepare pay off letters, payment history and balance letters, support sales portfolio to investors strategies.

  • Monitor and deliver the Paynet payments received or rejected in accounting of the cases not converted and apply them to the system.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

    ​ MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's in business administration or any other related field required.

  • Three (3) years of experience in collections within the financial services industry required.

  • Minimum education and experience required can be substituted with the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.

  • Communicates effectively and clearly with a broad range of employees across the organization, as well as external counterparts.

  • Expert negotiator with the ability to effectively communicate with debtors by remaining firm yet empathetic during discussions to maximize recovery and minimize loss.

  • Able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to act, navigate and resolve complex situations.

  • Capable of exerting analysis, problem resolutions, detail-oriented and execute various task simultaneously, while maintaining the quality standards.
