Apprentice Plumber

Weekly Pay up to $36/hr

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Apprentice Plumber with 3-6 years of experience and a valid plumbing license. The ideal candidate will have commercial plumbing experience and be proficient in working with sanitary cast iron, PVC, and copper pipes. This role involves assisting in the assembly, installation, and repair of plumbing systems, ensuring they meet specifications and appropriate trade and building codes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in loading, unloading, transporting, and furnishing experienced craft workers with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.

  • Clean work areas and restock supplies and materials as directed.

  • Layout and mark the position of pipe and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors using a ruler, level, and plumb bob.

  • Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipes and fittings using hand and power tools.

  • Help dig, backfill, and tamp ditches using shovels, picks, and tampers.

  • Cut, ream, and solder copper tubing/piping; braze, solvent weld, fuse groove, and thread pipe using pipe cutters, reamers, torches, alloy, gaskets, solvent cements, fusing machines, groove and pipe-threading machines.

  • Assemble and install valves, pipes, and fittings composed of metals (e.g., iron, steel, copper, brass, lead) and non-metals (e.g., glass, vitrified clay, plastic) using hand tools and power tools.

  • Join pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, solvent, and caulk joints.

  • Fill pipe systems with water or air and read gauges to determine system integrity.

  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, bathtubs, urinals, water heaters, and water softeners.

  • Assist plumbers, welders, sheet metal workers, or HVAC workers as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 3-6 years of experience as an apprentice plumber

  • Valid plumbing license

  • Commercial plumbing experience

  • Experience working with sanitary cast iron (70%) and PVC (30%)

  • Proficiency in soft soldering copper (90%) and brazing copper (10%)

  • Experience with schedule 40 threaded pipe

  • Ability to set up fixtures and perform underground installations (roughing)

  • Knowledge of plumbing systems and building codes

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with copper pipes above 1 inch in size

  • Ability to use hand and power tools effectively

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Work Environment

You will be working on construction sites, primarily on projects located downtown. The standard work schedule is from 7 am to 4 pm. The role involves physical labor and the use of various hand and power tools in a dynamic and sometimes challenging environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of San Antonio, Texas.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $35.00/hr.
