Job Summary

The Division of Vascular Surgery is looking for an Advanced Practice Clinician (NP/PA) who is a patient-focused, self-motivated provider and can work effectively in a team environment. Our APCs are valued members of our team and work collaboratively with the physicians as well as independently. We expect excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. In addition to working in a world-class institution with excellent benefits, there is ongoing education with weekly meetings geared specifically towards Vascular Surgery, practice standards guided by evidence-based research, and opportunities for project and research involvement.

The Vascular Surgery group includes 6 faculty surgeons, 2 fellows, and 9 APCs. APCs in the Division of Vascular Surgery provides 24/7 care to patients at the University Hospital. The NP or PA will provide a patient evaluation on a rotating coverage schedule which includes days, nights, and weekend coverage. There is an expectation for the APC to become increasingly comfortable with minor procedures and becoming a first assist in the OR.

In addition to the care of our patients, occasionally shared responsibility for teaching residents, medical students, and APC students will be expected as is participation in team meetings, education conferences, and special projects as required. This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on-campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at the work site if they are healthy and without COVID -19 symptoms.

Responsibilities

  1. Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories

  2. Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient’s condition

  3. Consults with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment

  4. Orders, interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient’s clinical problems and health care needs

  5. Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence

  6. Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy

  7. Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents

  8. Active participation in developing and implementing quality improvement measures

  9. Counsels patients, families and significant others about health and illness and promotes health maintenance

  10. Evaluates, plans, implements and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures

Minimum Qualifications

Required

Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.

Preferred

Certification in ACLS / BLS / NRP / ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.

Utah State prescriptive privileges.

Licensure is obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master’s degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.

UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
