SMBC VP SBA Portfolio Manager/Underwriter - (S. CA Remote) in Sacramento, California

JOB SUMMARY

The position of the SBA Portfolio/Underwriter is responsible for gathering and analyzing credit information on potential borrowers; determine the advisability of granting credit for diversified types of SBA loans; prepare loan credit approval memorandums, promote business for the Bank by maintaining good customer relations and referring customers to appropriate staff for new services. The position may perform in various other capacities, such as assist/back-up manager in its absence, assist packaging, closing and servicing areas of the department as needed. This position will assist department head in setting procedures and policies for marketing and generation of new SBA loans.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process loan requests in timely manner consistent with Small Business Administration standard operating procedures (SOP), agency regulations, and Bank’s credit policies and procedures;

  • Ensure compliance with established Bank policies and procedures, as well as with the standard operating procedures and regulations by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Demonstrate knowledge of adherence to, monitoring and responsibility for compliance with state and federal regulations and laws as they pertain to this position including but not limited to the following: Regulation Z (Truth in Lending Act), Regulation B (Equal Credit Opportunity Act), Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedure Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Bank Secrecy Act in conjunction with the USA PATRIOT Act, Anti-Money Laundering and Customer Information Program, Right to Financial Privacy Act (state and federal), Community Reinvestment Act, etc.;

  • Communicate with borrowers to gather financial information (financial statements, tax returns, etc.) needed to properly analysis the credit request. Spread financial statements and tax returns;

  • Manage a portfolio of SBA department’s borrowers to ensure covenant compliance, timely loan payments, and conduct site visits as appropriate;

  • Present and discuss credit memos to credit administration for loan approvals, extensions, or modifications. Present and discuss problem loan reports;

  • Act as primary contact person for Borrower, RM and BDO and answer various credit and product/service questions, preview transactions, rates and fees, loan inquiries, counter offers, cross selling opportunities, etc.;

  • Upon request and if time permits support relationship managers with customer calls;

  • Verifies validity of pledged assets and ascertains correct lien position;

  • Develops knowledge of financial industry, economy, market conditions, rates, vendors and competition;

  • Orders and reviews appraisal report, environmental report and business valuation report; Orders and review due diligence reports such as preliminary title searches, pre-UCC searches, credit reports, etc.;

  • Reinforces the application of superior customer service through his or her own example along with appropriate follow-through with involved customers and employees;

  • Operates computer terminal or personal computer to obtain and process data;

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience;

Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in SBA and Bank operations

Experience with SBA applications: T-Soft, ETran; Microsoft Word, and Excel.

Remote in S. CA. Ability to attend meetings in Downtown, Los Angeles
