A member of Catholic Health Services of Long Island, St. Francis is consistently recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a national leader for Cardiology & Heart Surgery, as well as for Gastroenterology & GI Surgery Job Details Position Summary: Responsible for the administrative operation of the laboratory; the maintenance of all policies procedures, and quality control practices; the management and supervision of the laboratory technical and clerical staff; the administration of the department budget; and the maintenance of effective physician and interdepartmental relations. Works closely with the Medical Director in the development of protocols to improve overall performance and the quality of patient care. Job Responsibilities: Leadership Establishes a good rapport and working relationship with laboratory, nursing, and medical staff. Motivates and encourages staff by direct supervision and participation in daily departmental functions. Maintains a highly professional manner. Creates an atmosphere of courtesy and respect toward patients and their families and to staff. Demonstrates good leadership by developing standards of performance and delegating authority to supervisory personnel. Responsibility for the orientation, training, in-service, and continuing education of staff. Will counsel, discipline, and terminate employees as necessary. Responsible for establishing effective safety and infection control programs and enforcing staff compliance. Quality of Work Identifies patient needs and develops programs to meet them. Oversees the services being provided and makes recommendations for improvement. Supervises and coordinates the Performance improvement program of the laboratory. Maintains appropriate departmental coverage on a 24 hour basis through the efficient scheduling of staff. Communicates updates to administration regarding budgets, (operating and capital), staffing, etc. Adheres to and accounts for the budget and services provided. Job Knowledge Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of department, its policies and procedures, and the relationship to the organization. Has a thorough knowledge of all State, Federal, and TJC regulatory standards so as to ensure departmental compliance. Demonstrates knowledge of hospital-wide policies and procedures and instructs the staff as to their application. Has knowledge of basic laboratory operations so as to assist with the delivery of laboratory services should the need arise. Dependability / Initiative Maintains a consistent pattern of attendance and punctuality Develops new policies and procedures as a direct response to patient needs or problems. Assists Nursing and Medical Staff as needed for the benefit of the patient. Develops and maintains a good working relationship with other departmental managers to assure the coordination of quality care. Cooperation /Attitude Creates and maintains an atmosphere of courtesy and respect toward patients, families, and staff. Maintains a positive and supportive attitude toward the mission and goals of Catholic Health. Provides an atmosphere that is customer driven and customer focused while respecting the cultural and religious diversities and needs of the patient. Performs other related duties as required and unrelated duties as requested by administration. Duties and Responsibilities Interviews, selects, and develops an effective staff. Delegates responsibilities to supervisors appropriate to their skill set. Assures the level of competency of subordinates through evaluation and work sampling to include safety, hospitality, sanitation, and mandated criteria. Establishes departmental operating norm within mandated guidelines and according to directives provided by Administration. Establishes staffing patterns, systems, communications reports, and procedures. Ensures the prompt and efficient delivery of laboratory services to patients adhering to mandated guidelines. Communicates both verbally and in writing with staff as necessary. Prepares and submits departmental statistical reports to Administration as needed. Counsels staff as required as required and provides remediation. Reviews all staff members’ performance. Provides insight as into ways of improving performance and sets goal with staff members. Ensures that all safety issues reported by the staff are investigated. Ensures that knowledge and skills with all operational procedures is maintains. Position Qualifications / Requirements: Minimum B.S./M.S in Medical Technology NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist license Computer literate with extensive software experience Minimum of five years supervisory experience Minimum of 10 years of experience in the field of Medical Technology Demonstrate leadership abilities with proven verbal and written communication skills Experience with regulatory standards and laboratory accreditation requirements Salary Range USD $89.00 - USD $105.00 /Hr. The salary range or rate listed does not include any differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
