Job Summary and Qualifications

The Director of Med Surg assumes 24-hour responsibility for assigned patient care areas. The incumbent will promote profession practice and coordinate patient care activities in the areas of administration, clinical, and human resources. This position requires an advanced level of management expertise as demonstrated through leadership, departmental functioning and educational preparation

  • You will provide positive leadership to departmental, hospital, and corporate committees and programs and empower the staff for professional decision-making at the operational level.

  • You will develop and integrate departmental goals and objectives to support the hospital’s vision, mission, and strategic plan.

  • You will develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the provision on one level of care or services for all patients.

  • You will assess and improve department’s/service area’s performance on an ongoing basis, gather information, draw conclusions and implement performance improvements, as well as evaluate performance to achieve sustained results.

  • You will encourage and consistently reinforce staff compliance with organizational policies, safety regulations, infection control procedures, ethics and compliance, risk management activities, standard precautions and proper body mechanics.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor’s degree – BSN required. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Current valid California RN license

  • Current BCLS certification

  • Certified Nurse Administrator / National RN certification preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years recent experience in acute care/management.

  • Minimum 3 years experience as a manager with 24-hour responsibility.

Riverside Community Hospital is a large acute care facility with 517 beds, established in 1901. It has the most extensive Emergency Room and Level I Trauma Center in the Inland Empire region and is the primary recipient of STEMI (heart attack) cases in Riverside County. The hospital is accredited as a Chest Pain Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center and has a HeartCare Institute that offers both invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures. Riverside has a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which it is very proud of.
