The PPD clinical research business of Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Research Scientist for our Richmond, VA Immunochemistry Sample Analysis team. As a Research Scientist you will perform analytical and technical project management tasks, review data tables and reports, provide training and mentoring to other Scientists and have frequent customer contact.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in lab sciences such as biology, biochemistry, immunology, chemistry, molecular biology or similar

Experience:

  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 8+ years’) or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • OR Masters degree and previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable 6+ year)

  • OR PhD and previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable 4+ year)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Experience performing immunoassays, ELISA or similar testing

  • Experience with MSD (Mesoscale Discovery), Spectramax, Gyros and Tecan

  • Reviews and critiques study protocols, project status reports, final study reports and other project-related technical documents

  • Reviews data for technical quality and compliance to protocols, methods and SOPs

  • Coordinates and prioritizes project activities with internal functional groups (physical testing, analytical development, microbiology, etc.) and support functions (QA, sample management, etc.).

  • Reviews and approves laboratory investigations, deviations, and QA facility and data audits. Leads client and FDA audits.

  • Allocates, schedules and manages laboratory resources for group's project activities and updates project status. Reviews timesheet reports for billing accuracy.

  • Communicates data and technical issues to clients as needed

  • Leads analytical (procedural and instrumental) trouble shooting sessions

  • Responds to client’s questions and needs; leads client technical meetings.

  • Validated problem solving and troubleshooting abilities

  • Assists in preparation of proposals by provided project definition.

  • Consistent record in technical writing skills

  • Time management and project management skills

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work in a collaborative work environment with a team

  • Ability to train junior staff
