TEKsystems Data Center Technician (Construction Networking) in Richmond, Virginia

Qualifications:

• Reliable – Must show up on time daily ready to work

• Comfortable with heights and familiar with what to expect on a construction site

• Willingness to learn, sweat, work hard, and have mechanical aptitude

• Steel Toe Boots and familiarity with basic hand tools

Day-to-day duties:

• Contractors will be required to work off blueprints, utilize hand and power tools to assemble and mount trays, and server racks/closets, and pull fiberoptic cable from point A to point B.

• Drop the cable down a wall using fish tape or other methods. Route cable. Perform pre-termination procedures: organize, form, dress cables, and determine length, slack, and label cables. Suspend and support cable correctly: Cable tray, J-hook, D-rings, Bridal rings, Trapez

• Build out server rows (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic, and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.

• Perform fire-stopping procedures on firewalls, install sleeves, and pull cable through sleeves and core penetration.

• Will terminate low-voltage devices. All contractors will be trained on all of this.

• OSP – outside guys that have no problem with the heat. Crews will be outside digging at times but mostly pulling cable underground and into the data centers.

• Build-Out Team – This team is putting together the actual racks and cable trays that the servers and cables sit on. They will also install the rack and cable trays into the data center.

• ISP – can range from just hanging cable trays/building server cabinets to potentially doing networking support or even break/fix repairs if skilled enough. Usually takes a while to get on these teams

• Pulling off the cable is extremely physical and exhausting on the body. There is a ton of cable to be pulled as multiple buildings and projects are going at one time

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Any type of low-voltage, cable, or fiber experience is a plus

Work Environment:

• This is a huge ongoing construction site. There are a ton of different trades out onsite, plumbing, HVAC, concrete, framing, etc.

• Hours will vary depending on what time individuals are in the project. The team typically works 4-10hr days (M-TH) or 5-8hr days (M-F) with occasional OT (Potential Saturday work) Never on Sundays. Teams can start as early as 6 AM. This is daytime work.

Job Description:

• We are looking for technicians who are excited about installing, running, and terminating, fiber optic and copper cable for a large ongoing initiative.

Tools/PPE Required:

• Steel toe Boots and basic hand tools are a plus, All other PEE will be provided, Hard-hat, safety vest, glasses, etc.

Compensation:

• Most entry-level technicians will start in the high teens hourly and we can pay more based on experience.
