Lead Payroll Tax and Compliance Specialist (Hybrid)
We are seeking a Lead Payroll Tax and Compliance Specialist to join our Accounting Operations team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Payroll, you will be responsible for ensuring payroll operations comply with federal, state, and local regulations while optimizing processes for accuracy and efficiency. In this role, you will oversee payroll compliance, garnishment administration, auditing, regulatory filings, and process improvements. You will collaborate with HR, Finance, Legal teams, and external vendors to maintain compliance, address payroll-related inquiries, and implement best practices.
This is a hybrid position based from our global headquarters in Reston, VA.
What You Will Do
Compliance Management: Monitor and interpret changes in payroll laws, ensuring adherence to tax and labor regulations.
Garnishment Administration: Oversee wage garnishments, ensuring accurate calculations and timely deductions.
Auditing & Reporting: Conduct payroll audits, identify discrepancies, and generate compliance reports.
Regulatory Filings: Manage payroll tax filings, e.g., forms 941, W-2s, 1099s, and handle tax authority inquiries.
Process Improvement: Streamline payroll compliance processes, implement automation, and enhance efficiency.
Training & Support: Provide compliance training to payroll staff and internal stakeholders.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management: Coordinate with payroll providers, tax agencies, and internal teams.
Project Management: Lead payroll compliance projects, including system upgrades and regulatory implementations.
What You Will Bring With You
8+ years of experience of payroll processing, which must include 2 years payroll tax filing.
Experience with ADP and Workday payroll systems.
Experience in tax compliance and filings.
Experience analyzing payroll data, detecting trends, and resolving compliance issues.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field).

Ability to convey complex compliance matters to various stakeholders.
Effective time management, multitasking, and attention to detail.
Ability to adjust to evolving regulations, technologies, and business needs.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:
$88,817.00 - $150,989.00
