GENERAL DUTIES
Performs supervisory and/or complex technical functions in laboratories in support of coursework.
-Maintains, fabricates, modifies, and repairs equipment
-Determines equipment requirements, prepares purchase specifications and coordinates acquisitions
-Trains and supervises College Laboratory Technicians, College Assistants, and other laboratory staff
-Manages set up, maintenance, and organization of student laboratories
-Maintains safety and hygiene standards
-Documents laboratory activities
-Performs related duties as assigned.

Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. Reporting to the Chair of the Health Science department, the Senior College Laboratory Technician will be responsible, but not limited to, the following:
Responsible for coordinating the functions of the Nursing skills laboratory;
Overseeing the preparations of the lab for classroom instruction/independent student practice;
Assisting faculty in organizing and scheduling the skills lab practice for specified nursing courses;
Assisting with preparing the budget and writing purchase orders for specified equipment, supplies, media, and other instructional materials;
Operating software for computer-assisted instruction and computerized mannequins;
Working as assigned in the technologically advanced Human Patient Simulator laboratory including preparing lab schedules and assisting faculty and students in using the software for running clinical simulations;
Preparing materials for clinical simulations; and clinical rotations;
Acting as liaison with Allied Health Department and New York Simulation Center for the Health Sciences (NYSIM) to coordinate use of the simulator lab. Evening/weekend schedule may be required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma with a minimum of eight years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate's degree may be substituted for two years' experience and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years' experience. This position may also require the ability to supervise others.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working in the nursing field or with a nursing program in an academic setting is preferred. Experience with technology used in nursing labs such as Electronic Medical Record Software (EMR) is preferred. NYS Licensure as a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or certification related to nursing is preferred.
COMPENSATION
$55,787 - $70,501
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
