POSITION DETAILS

Queens College of the City University of New York invites applications for the position of Director of Professional Practice and Community Partnerships in the School of Education. The School of Education is home to many premier programs and scholars, and produces more education graduates who become principals, teachers, and counselors for New York City’s public schools than any other college in the metropolitan area.

Reporting directly to the Dean, the Director of Professional Practice and Community Partnerships will develop, oversee and monitor clinical experiences (e.g., early fieldwork and student teaching) embedded within curriculum education programs that lead to initial and professional certifications. The Director of Professional Practice and Community Partnerships will work closely with the Dean and the Director of Assessment and Accreditation to evaluate clinical experiences and program curriculum to ensure that they meet New York State and accreditation standards. This position requires in-person work at the College.

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee the leadership and management of the Office of Field Placement.

  • Manage the Teacher Opportunity Corp (TOC) II grand-funded program and supervise the TOC II coordinator.

  • Serve as the primary liaison for the New York City Public School, Long Island School Districts, and Westchester School Districts and foster the cultivation of partnerships.

  • Ensure that all Standards of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) for initial and advanced programs are implemented and adhered to.

  • Work with the School of Education clinical professors to manage and organize clinical curricular components that meet New York State teacher education requirements and regulations.

  • Ensure clinical placements comply with all New York State Education Department rules and regulations.

  • Organize student success events within and outside of the curriculum to support teacher candidates.

  • Develop professional learning for clinical professors, clinical supervisors, and school-based educators.

  • Lead initiatives set forth by the Dean of Education to support mutually beneficial external partnerships.

  • Partner with the School of Education Office of Assessment and Accreditation team to manage and organize clinical and program assessment data.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s or Doctoral degree in education or in a related field of study.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in designing or implementing clinical experiences in educator preparation.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in designing or implementing community-engaged clinical experiences.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in designing or implementing culturally responsive practices in P-12 or higher education diverse, urban educational settings through teaching, research, or service.

  • Experience supervising staff to meet time sensitive deadlines and goals.

  • Knowledge of initial and advanced teacher certification programs, especially in the coordination of field experiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professional relationships with university faculty, students, staff, P-12 faculty and administrators, and other external constituents.

  • Experience working with or in K-12 classroom or non-profit organizations.

  • Organization, project management, communication, and facilitation skills.

  • Strong technology skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent written and public speaking skills.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

Directs curriculum development and operations of a College's specialized academic program under executive oversight.

  • Designs, implements and monitors a comprehensive academic program development plan

  • Administers all curricular, administrative, and financial aspects of the program

  • Oversees program evaluation efforts and creates strategic plan to further develop program offerings

  • Manages annual budget; develops proposals and other initiatives for expanded program support

  • Cultivates and maintains strategic partnerships; serves as primary liaison to faculty and administrators to plan and execute programming activities

  • May participate in faculty recruitment efforts

  • Manages professional and clerical staff

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary range: $83,878 - $100,329

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
