Available Title(s): 306-YN_FACULTY - Postdoctoral Research Associate Business Title: Postdoctoral Research Associate-Hentges Lab Employee Type: Faculty (+) (Fixed Term) Position Term: 12 Month Position Details: Postdoctoral research associate in the Hentges laboratory to study neurophysiology of food and drug intake. The successful candidate will perform independent studies aimed at using electrophysiologic, activity-based, and molecular approaches to make important contributions to understanding how endocannabinoids, opioids, and other transmitters regulate specific aspects of food and drug intake. Receive technical training and active mentorship. Successful candidates will use a combination of modern neuroscience approaches in animal models to examine molecular, cellular and circuit-level underpinnings of motivation and reinforcement while gaining additional technical training and experience in mentoring and writing. The Department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience is an academic unit in the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Faculty within the department form highly collaborative research units that study substance abuse, ingestive behavior, stress, and sleep neurobiology. Thus, the candidate will have ample opportunities for collaboration and co-mentoring. Postdocs can compete for both intramural and external research grants. In addition to postdoctoral training, the department offers baccalaureate and doctoral degree programs in Neuroscience. The department is housed in an award-winning, ultra-modern BSL-2 research facility on the Pullman campus of Washington State University, and it is equipped with state-of-the-art microscopy, imaging, electrophysiology, cell biology, and behavioral testing equipment. Pullman is a college town located in the heart of the Palouse, on the Southeast border of Washington State, with easy access to various outdoor recreation opportunities. Required Qualifications: • Ph.D. in neuroscience or related field. • Be fluent in written and spoken English • Be self-motivated, willing to learn and a good team player Preferred Qualifications: • Preference will be given to applicants with experience in electrophysiology and/or stereotaxic surgery and have a strong understanding of the physiology of motivated behaviors, energy balance regulation, and/or opioid actions.
