BYU Food Service Assistant in PROVO, Utah

Job Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to support the Sous chef in all responsibilities. This position particularly will be tasked with assisting in 1) producing Cougar Crunch to support retail sales and orders 2) maintaining a clean warehouse and kitchen area, including receiving product and 4) providing operational support for events.

 

Essential Functions

Produce Cougar Crunch under the direction of the Sous Chef

  • Pop, cook, clean, and package a variety of Cougar Crunch Products
  • Ensure high level of quality control of finished products
  • As assigned, supervise and train new workers in Cougar Crunch Production
  • Assist in new product development and testing
  • Provides support and supervision as necessary and as assigned by the Sous Chef

Assist Sous Chef with Kitchen and Warehouse tasks

  • Maintaining a clean and orderly environment in the Kitchen, Warehouse, and Dock areas
  • Assist the Sous Chef in receiving product
  • As assigned, supervise and train new workers in all aspects of Kitchen/Warehouse
  • Help with monthly inventory as assigned by Sous Chef
  • Process incoming product and equipment from events
  • Prepare outgoing orders and handle other outgoing needs as assigned
  • Provide support for other Dining departments using Concessions facilities
  • Provide any other support as necessary and as assigned

Support for Events

  • Kitchen and warehouse preparation, support, and closedown for major events
  • Work as assigned at all events, including in supervisory roles

Additional Responsibilities as assigned

  • May be assigned by Concessions GM, AGM, Production or Office Supervisor

     

What Qualifies you for this position?

 

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Strong customer service, accountability, and ownership skills
  • Culinary aptitude: 1 year experience with baking, cooking, or related field
  • Ability to work 16-hour days and overtime during football and special events
  • High degree of organization and productivity
  • Food handler's permit (can be obtained after hire)
  • Driver's License
  • Ability to lift/handle up to 50 lbs

     

Preferred:

  • Associates Degree in hospitality management, culinary or applicable field
  • 2 years supervisory experience with baking, cooking, or related field
  • Experience in logistical support, receiving and warehouse for multiply locations
  • ServSafe certification
  • HAZCOM training
