Brown University Studio Coordinator in Providence, Rhode Island

Job Description:

The Studio Coordinator in the Department of the History of Art and Architecture (HIAA) will be an architect or artist with experience in an architecture studio environment. The coordinator will be the point person for the architecture studio and will work closely with three part-time professors of the practice and the department chair to ensure the smooth running of the architecture concentration. The coordinator will also coordinate the scheduling, maintenance, and safety of the department's 42-desk architecture studio seminar room and fabrication room while mentoring and assisting approximately 50 students with 25 concentrators. The coordinator also performs regular studio and equipment maintenance tasks and cleaning to ensure the safe and smooth running of classes, events, and studio critiques.

This is a 20 hours per week part-time position from August to June, 32 weeks during the academic year. The manager will determine the actual start and end date.

This fixed-term position is eligible for annual renewal based on the funding source. The incumbent must be able to work evenings and weekends when needed .

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree and 2-3 years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Experience working in an art or architecture studio and using art materials such as Exacto knives, glue, and paint preferred.

  • Scheduling and facilities management experience in an art studio setting is preferred

  • Basic knowledge of architectural design processes and representation techniques.

  • Basic knowledge of design computation, digital representation, and modeling software, such as Sketch-Up and Rhino.

  • Ability to clearly communicate technical and design information to undergraduate students at all levels.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
