UPMC Respiratory Therapist, RRT in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Ideal candidates will be graduates of a CoARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) approved Respiratory program, hold a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and possess Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation certification. Additionally, candidates must be Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Responsibilities:

  • Assess patient condition by reading prescriptions, measuring arterial blood gases, and reviewing patient information.

  • Determine treatment requirements, including type, duration, and medication dosages.

  • Choose the best method for administering inhalants and make necessary adjustments per physician's orders.

  • Assist in transporting mechanically ventilated patients and respond to all code situations.

  • Maintain patient charts and order repairs as needed.

  • Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees and supervise students.

  • Set up and operate respiratory therapy devices, ensuring optimal treatment parameters.

  • Monitor and adjust equipment for safe and efficient operation.

  • Evaluate medical orders and interpret clinical data to optimize patient outcomes.

  • Monitor patient responses to therapy and perform necessary procedures, such as bronchopulmonary drainage and breathing exercises.

  • Conduct pulmonary function tests and consult with physicians on adverse reactions.

  • Graduate of a Co ARC (Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) approved Respiratory program required Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required

  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation required

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required

  • Respiratory therapists who receive their RRT credential from the NBRC after July 1, 2002 are required to maintain certification under the NBRC requirements Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Osteopathic Respiratory Care OR Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP)

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
