Labor Relations Personnel and Payroll Specialist

 

The University of Pittsburgh, a prestigious research institution committed to academic excellence and fostering a supportive, inclusive community for students and employees, is seeking a dedicated Personnel and Payroll Specialist. As a Personnel and Payroll Specialist you will serve as a primary contact for faculty union members, regarding all payroll actions, leaves and will provide support and guidance. You will review and correct payroll actions, forms, and payroll registers. This role involves collaborating with various departments to handle payroll-related queries, processing union dues, and ensuring compliance with university policies and relevant regulations. The ideal candidate will perform data entry and ensure accuracy and compliance with policies and regulations. As a Personnel and Payroll Specialist, your role also involves supporting the Director of Academic Affairs by handling various tasks and assignments.

Job Summary

 

Serves as a primary contact for faculty, staff, union, and students regarding all payroll actions and issues and provides support and guidance. Reviews and corrects record changes, payroll actions, employment forms, and payroll registers. Approves recruitment actions, requests, and reclassifications; onboards new and rehired faculty, staff, and students. Performs data entry and maintains all filing systems. Ensures accuracy and compliance with policies and regulations.

Essential Functions

    • Serves as a primary contact for faculty, staff, union, and students regarding all payroll actions and issues; provides support and guidance.
    • Reviews record changes, payroll actions, employment forms, and payroll registers; ensures accuracy and compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations; takes corrective action when necessary.
    • Approves recruitment actions, selection requests, and reclassifications; onboards new and rehired faculty/staff/students.
    • Accurately process and manage union dues deductions from employee paychecks.
    • Liaise with union representatives to ensure correct implementation of union agreements related to payroll.
    • Prepare and remit union dues reports to the appropriate union offices in a timely manner.
    • Translates payroll and personnel actions into database; creates spreadsheets; retains personnel files and maintains filing systems.
    • Assists with special projects and initiatives as needed.
    • Assists the Director of Academic Affairs.

Physical Effort

Moderate physical effort is required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without the assistance of equipment.
