Summary This position is located within the Environmental Management Services (EMS) at the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Housekeeping Aid Leader reports directly to the Housekeeping Supervisor and passes on instructions from supervisors to other workers by assigning immediate tasks to be performed as well as leads and trains Housekeeping Aids in a variety of functions. Responsibilities Working along with other workers and setting the pace. Demonstrating proper work methods. Seeing to it that needed plans, materials, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Obtaining needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that come up during the work. Leads and trains Housekeeping Aids, WG-2's in assigned unit in nonsupervisory work of the housekeeping occupation. Leads the work of Housekeeping Aids in a a variety of tasks involving sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, mopping and waxing floors; cleaning surfaces, window interiors, bathroom fixtures, and carpets and sanitation of patient, procedures, operating and waiting rooms and other clinical and public spaces located throughout the facility. Responsible for assisting the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor with the daily functions of work and staff responsibilities to ensure work assignments are complete to the highest level of cleanliness and in a timely manner. Perform and train non-supervisory staff on processes and practices of performing bedmaking duties as required and/or directed by the supervisor. Able to organize any and all phases of the unit to respond to urgent situations while maintaining job effectiveness. Conduct at least 2-3 weekly walk through inspections in assigned areas to endure all service routines and periodic duties are being satisfactorily accomplished. Report results to the unit supervisor for joint planning and corrective action to ensure levels of cleanliness are at standard and to reduce, if not, eliminate infectious control matters. Must be thoroughly familiar with power equipment, i.e.. floor machines, vacuumes, auto scrubbers, battery powered floor equipment, carpet shampoo machines, and perform the same type of work as a Housekeeping Aid, which includes a full range of cleaning in any assigned area. Reports to supervisor on status and progress of work, and causes of work delays; and answering questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Duties require constant physical demands such as bending, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying and reaching. Incumbent consistently lifts from zero (0) - fifty (50) pounds. The incumbent must climb ladders to clean overhead equipment and operate heavy duty commercial cleaning equipment that requires eye, hand and body coordination. Incumbent normally works in a controlled environment with regulated head, light and ventilation. He/she is exposed to organic materials such as blood, infectious organisms and disagreeable odors. The incumbent is required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) and/or safety gear. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
