Reference #: 4846155 THE POSITION The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is on the lookout for a seasonal Park Maintenance Worker to join their team in Cambria County. This role involves performing essential maintenance tasks across various areas, including custodial duties, construction projects, and general upkeep at Prince Gallitzin State Park. DESCRIPTION OF WORK The employee engages in fundamental maintenance activities, including cleaning and mowing, either independently or by supporting a skilled worker in routine maintenance and construction tasks at Prince Gallitzin State Park. This role involves assisting with repairs to buildings and facilities, utilizing tools from various trades such as carpentry, electrical, and plumbing to carry out maintenance duties. Responsibilities also include painting and staining park structures, signs, and gates, ensuring they remain in good condition.

In addition, the employee operates and maintains vehicles and equipment essential for park operations, ensuring they are clean and functional. They construct simple forms for concrete work using carpentry tools, mix and place cement, and finish surfaces with masonry tools, as well as build stone and block walls. Ground maintenance tasks are performed using various equipment, including riding mowers and chainsaws, to manage weeds and grass, cut firewood, and maintain cleanliness by picking up litter and trash. The employee is also involved in site preparation, seeding new turf areas, planting and caring for trees and shrubs, and maintaining trails throughout the park.

The role requires the operation of a pickup truck or utility vehicle to transport cleaning supplies across the park. Under the guidance of a certified pesticide applicator, the employee applies herbicides as needed. They are responsible for comprehensive housekeeping and building maintenance, which includes cleaning and stocking restrooms, pit latrines, offices, and other facilities, as well as performing minor repairs like changing light bulbs. The position necessitates independent travel across state roadways within the park to fulfill assigned tasks, while ensuring the safe and proper use of all equipment and tools. Additionally, the employee assists park visitors by providing information in a courteous and helpful manner and is responsible for completing necessary documentation, such as daily records.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Seasonal, full-time employment without benefits. Shift hours and days vary due to operational need, with a 30-minute lunch Weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed at 37.5 hours per week You will receive further communication regarding this position via email. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
