The Opportunity

Do you love writing about infrastructure and the technical solutions to our world’s biggest challenges? Black & Veatch is seeking a talented writer to do just that by joining our Governments & Communities (G&C) team supporting the Water Solutions Portfolio as a Technical Proposal Writer. The G&C Sector offers opportunities to draft, revise, and edit written content in various styles and for various audiences, from high-level sales content to highly precise technical content, in longer and shorter formats, as part of fast-paced, dynamic teams. This role will play a critical part in developing persuasive proposal content for the G&C Sales & Pursuits team and for that reason requires exceptional writing and oral communication skills, ability to provide feedback on others’ writing, and expertise in proposal and technical writing specifically.

The Team

Black & Veatch’s Governments & Communities focuses on specific infrastructure needs of municipalities, state and local governments, and specialized physical and digital infrastructure solutions for government and federal agencies. Key Responsibilities

• Draft and revise high-quality, engaging, and persuasive content for G&E proposals and support Sales & Pursuits efforts to elevate sales messaging in proposals

• Provide detailed, clear, and helpful feedback, written and oral, on others’ writing to advise how to improve clarity, organization, and accuracy of written content

• Edit and proofread written content for grammar, clarity, and consistency

• Develop content and educational strategies to meet business goals and target audience needs. 

• Ensure pursuit content is written persuasively and in plain language.

• Conduct thorough research on industry-related topics to develop well-informed and accurate sales and proposal content.  

• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in content development.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field. 

• Five years of proven experience as a Writer or similar role. 

• Strong portfolio of writing samples showcasing ability to create engaging and persuasive content. 

• Ability to craft actionable correction and feedback on others’ writing

• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills (AP Style preferred). 

• Superior written and oral communication skills

• Collaborative and ability to work in close-knit teams

• Experience in proposal and technical writing (AEC/engineering/public sector experience preferred). 

• Exhibits proficiency in using content management systems (Salesforce preferred) and Microsoft Suite. 

• Familiarity with Adobe InDesign and Sharepoint

• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines. 

• Efficient research skills to gather information from reliable sources. 

Minimum Qualifications

• 4+ years of project or proposal experience
