Job Title: Engineering Field Technician

Job Description

As an Engineering Field Technician, you will be responsible for evaluating soil, rock, and underground water to determine the feasibility and design specifications for construction projects. You will be performing geotechnical analysis and studies to assess construction site conditions. This role involves being the liaison between the field crew, project managers, and engineers, ensuring effective geotechnical exploration and field investigations for construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Take samples from the field crews and evaluate soil, rock, and underground water.

  • Perform geotechnical analysis and studies to assess construction site conditions.

  • Plan and conduct geotechnical exploration.

  • Perform field and environmental investigations for construction projects.

  • Inspect and check quality, and participate in the execution of soil sampling 20% of the time.

  • Analyze geotechnical findings, perform appropriate calculations, and prepare data reports for the Project Manager.

  • Provide direction to the technical team in field inspection activities.

  • Interact with customers and team members to complete the assigned project on time.

  • Review construction design proposals and approve geotechnical aspects.

Essential Skills

  • Construction inspection

  • Construction materials testing

  • Minimum Associate's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering

  • 1-5 years of commercial construction experience

  • ACI certification

  • NICET certification

  • Concrete testing and observation

  • Pass MVR and Slump test

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience as an inspector, observer, or surveyor in the construction materials testing field

  • Ability to manage a team and move into a project engineering role

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Successful experience in client service management

  • Leadership experience in setting direction for a team, project, and office

  • Proficient in decision making and solving complex problems

  • Understanding of geotechnical practices including exploration, analysis, and design

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Willingness to travel to other offices and project sites

Work Environment

This position involves 20% in-office planning and documentation, and 70% onsite at commercial construction sites. The role includes reporting to the Project Manager in Geotechnical Engineering and acting as the liaison between the field crew, project managers, and engineers. The company provides a vehicle for transport between the office and job site. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
