About the role Position Overview This position is responsible for developing, implementing and recommending policies and procedures for the Quality Assurance function. Responsibilities include day-to-day operations of the Quality Assurance department reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager. This position is accountable for ensuring that all production activities are in line with company goals. Responsibilities Essential Functions Plan department operations, establish priorities and utilize knowledge of processes and methods, equipment capabilities and staffing requirements Supervises inspection of inbound finished goods and maintains knowledge of and responsibility for customer RMA returns as they relate to quality issues Selects, applies, and interprets basic quality tools and techniques such as Pareto charts, histograms, check sheets, flowcharts, SPC charts, etc. Describes, selects, and uses appropriate measurement equipment and evaluates measurement results to determine conformance to specifications. Understands and applies corrective action processes, including failure analysis, 8Ds, 5 Whys, etc. to determine root cause and corrective action Interprets blueprints, drawings, specifications, and procedures to perform inspection, testing, or other job functions Performs product and process audits assigned Support, establish and promote safe, productive inspection procedures for each item; train and enforce their consistent implementation, provide retraining as necessary, follow-up to ensure requirements and standards are consistently met Personally ensure maintenance of a clean, well-groomed and efficient work environment that is completely free of damaged or non-useable materials; this requires proper redirecting of excess materials, immediate removal of trash, unsafe or damaged pallets, plastic wrap, used cartons or any other discrepancy that would distract from the most efficient possible use of available work space; this also includes repackaging of product found to be in damaged cartons, re-stacking and organization of pallets, and continuous optimum organization of all racks, staging lanes and aisle-ways Additional duties may be assigned Identifies and labels non-conforming product and coordinates the segregation of non-conforming product to the appropriate location. Recommends dispositions on non-conforming product to the material review board (MRB) or other authority Physical Demands This position requires 20% clerical and planning and 80% material handling, processing RMA’s, and/or walking and assisting production employees Work is primarily performed on the manufacturing floor where noise levels may be moderate or high and hearing protection may have to be worn Eye and foot protection may have to be worn Lifting weights up to 30 pounds may occur regularly, with a potential for lifting weights of up to 45 pounds on an occasional basis. Qualifications Skills Working knowledge of a manufacturing and/or distribution environment.
