UL, LLC Renewable Energy Analyst - Wind Northbrook, Illinois

UL Solutions is seeking a mid-level Engineer to join the Energy Advisory Team.

The role contributes to the development of innovative, analytical, high-quality products and services, typically working on several projects in parallel and with all levels of staff. This position will work under the direction of an Energy Team Leader having responsibility for the completion of high-quality wind energy analysis work.

The analysis of wind energy projects involves working across the full spectrum of analysis from initial data acquisition and validation, long-term speed estimates, energy modeling through losses and uncertainties evaluation, in support of the completion of bankable energy production assessments.

This role can be hybrid or remote.

  • Timely and efficient completion of high-quality wind energy analysis work.

  • Carry out both pre-construction and operational energy analyses under supervision, including:

  • Compilation, validation, and analysis of meteorological data for wind resource assessments

  • Assist wind energy project planning, provide spatial planning support identifying potential wind farm locations

  • Evaluation of project constraints, risks, and other non-quantitative aspects of wind farm development

  • Design and optimization of wind farms to meet project requirements

  • Run atmospheric and wind flow models to develop wind resource maps

  • Estimation of plant losses and calculation of assessment uncertainties

  • Generation of Energy Production Estimates

  • Turbine site suitability assessments

  • Creation of Energy Production Reports for Clients

  • Work effectively with colleagues to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products while working collaboratively with other teams and business units when needed.

  • Collaborate effectively with Energy Team Leaders and Project Managers to answer Client questions after completion of work.

  • Understand and ensure company quality control standards are met.

  • Assist with the development of department standards and procedures.

  • Support business development activities and other department initiatives led by Senior staff.

  • Meeting with customers and attending or presenting at conferences.

  • Participate in informal and formal departmental training activities.

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Science, Engineering, Physics, or equivalent from an accredited University.

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).

  • Superior attention to detail.

  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Over 2 years relevant experience in wind energy or a related field (for mid-level).

Preferred:

  • Master of Science degree in Atmospheric Science, Engineering, Physics, or equivalent from an accredited University.

  • Prior knowledge of the wind industry and familiarity with wind energy project development.

  • Experience with meteorological data analysis.

  • Knowledge of Windographer, Openwind, and/or other renewable energy related software tools.

  • Database management skills.

  • GIS packages, such as ArcMap and QGIS.

  • Programming language skills, such as Python, VBA, and R.

Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career . The estimated salary range for this position is $92,000 - $120,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary.

This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
